My last question would be this... if we drop someone's grade 25% for not being on a team, is that 25% off the Madden score, or 25% off of our functioning grade. Those would be two different things.

80 is 6.0

60 is 4.0

If we drop them 25% off the Madden grade, that's actually 33% of the functional grade.

(the player from a couple years ago was Roderick Hood, who signed half way through the season, and I requested his grade be reinstated. Madden didn't change his grade after he was signed.)

The sim doesn't consider the madden score. We just have those for us. It's the grade used for averages (ex. 6.0) that matters most for us that we'll change. We knock that grade down for players who didn't make an NFL team and no longer in football after week 4 and invincible to injury the rest of their days on the sofa who'll never have their grade updated again most likely if never in football again. If they do get back in the game, usually they are among madden's hundreds of players updated on a weekly basis throughout the season. We can't go back in time and change the past, just work on the future. If you have a player in a similar situation in the future where you decide to risk guaranteeing their salary that they'll someday get back into the league and they do but madden continues to completely ignore them, though unadvised, we'll try to put more priority on rectifying those rare situations at that individual player level.

For players playing out of position needs an exact scoring change I think. E.g if You have a starting C that goes down, and a team doesn't have a backup C. I think it's perfectly fine for the next backup in line on your O-line to fill in that spot. I would say there should be a standard deviation in grades. A player would get a -1.0 differential off of their normal everyday grade. It can be whatever negative amount, but instead of taking a 0 or 1.0 score then just a lower grade. Teams in the NFL would insert a backup G for a Center or whatever if they had to. They wouldn't just bring a guy off the practice squad in the middle of the game with no madden ranking.

I am not sure I exactly age with this statement. Most teams have a plan in place to deal with losing s center, but there have been a few games in the past few years where the backup goes down and the game turns into a real fumble party (I specifically remember the Steelers having this problem). I don't know if the is an ideal wadi to handle position versatility, but I don't think you can say any guard can play center or any tackle can play guard. Different skill sets are required.

This is why you sign a backup. That is the guy nfl teams put into the game. Have one on your team to.

While I agree and that is what I usually do. Do all NFL teams have a backup C on their roster?

Yes NFL teams carry a backup center. However, usually it would be a dual guard/center to offer the team versatility.

Just looking at depth charts, it doesn't show that. I'm sure they have a plan, as you said a dual player but MIA/DAL in real life are two examples that only show one player listed on their depth chart.

Miami had Sam Brenner at C, a 2013 rookie who was activated off the practice squad in Nov. Not sure what they plan was previously, but I am sure they had one.

Dallas had Phil Costa last season. He signed with Indy in the offseason.

Yeah I wouldn't trust depth charts right now with the off season in progress but each team has a backup. I can only speak for Detroit since I follow them closely. If you look at their depth chart, depending on which site, you might find Rodney Austin listed as backup guard and not backup center. However, he fulfills both roles on the Lions roster.
