2013 RULES: GM Accountability

Im here to win as many games I can each yr and not all owners can get in the AFFL. Its not fun if owners dont want to win. I think all leagues should have the 10 wins in 3 yrs rule

I voted yes and for the AFFL only. I have no problem with a standard to keep my team over a three year period. It may stop teams from "tanking" and getting seven 1st round draft picks. The only option I may add is that if someone fails to meet the "standard", they are giving the opportunity to explain to the commish why they feel here team isn't performing. I would hate to see an original member removed from the league without an appeals process. I would think the the commish has a pretty good handle on how dedicated some members are.

10 wins in 3 years? How many teams haven't accomplished that? I would be willing to bet very few if any at all. So in my estimation if we had this rule then it isn't a big deal. Easily attained for all.

I would hate to see an instant dismissal for something like this, if a GM who is very active went through a rebuilding year and two years worth of picks did not pan out and ran into injury trouble. Perhaps an unlikely scenario but not impossible.

Perhaps a competition committee to investigate such matters before automatically throwing down the axe?

I agree there should be a safety net in place to prevent that from happening. I finished 6-10 and I could not win enough games in the next two seasons to win 10 games in which I would loose my team so some type of safety net could prevent that.

Yes, I don't want this to be cut and dry either. Some sort of review, with the idea being, if your team can't win 10 games in 3 years, you need to go before a committee or GMs from another league.

Plus, under the 49ers example. Walsh wouldn't have been fired. You wouldn't count previous records from a different GM, that would be completely Unfair!

I'm in favor of the rule for the AFFL only. However, I don't think the committee or appeal process is a good idea. Frankly, if this is going to work, there has to be a clear in or out objective measuring stick. Having an appeals process only makes more work for Troy and exposes whoever is involved in the decision to accusations of personal bias.

For leagues other than the AFFL, I don't think we should throw out active owners. I'd like to see some way to slow down tanking and pick collection like a limit on the total number of first round picks a team can have in a single draft. There is a goal to hold the AFFL to a higher standard though, so some accountability seems like a good idea. It is not uncommon to see NFL coaches/GMs in playoff or bust years, and sometimes those guys get fired just due to bad luck in a make or break year. 10 wins over 3 years is a pretty low bar for a competitive league.
