PS signings and roster limits

Just a suggestion:

The amount of time a team has to match a practice squad signing and the amount of time given for 53 man roster compliance should be the same. Currently it's 1 week to match, but the PS signing is added to your roster immediately, and their is a 48 hour notification. I'd recommend 48 hours for both, but it could be 1 week, or the player could be held in limbo until the team with matching rights exercise their option to match or decline.

Examples of messages:

• Jets has signed Vincent Valentine (|DT|) to a 3 year contract @ 500,000/yr with 1,500,000 signing bonus and 0 annual roster bonus - NE will have 1 week (from 2016-09-20) to match the offer and add them to their own 53-man roster (2016-09-20)

- You have MORE than 53 men on your roster. 53 man roster cut-down deadline is September 9th. Please select 1 player(s) above to cut or put on IR for the rest of the season if injured. During the season, teams cannot be above their 53 man roster limit other than for temporary roster maneuverings to be quickly corrected within 48 hours.

I think - though I might be wrong - the 48 hour clock doesn't start until the original team makes the decision on whether to match.

So in your example, the 48 hour window for the Jets to get back under 53 men wouldn't start until NE makes a decision on whether to match.

Personally I think this is a non-issue and just something to create more work for Goodell than necessary, also I am sure there was a good reason it was set up the way it was. If I had to guess I would say because not everyone checks in within 48 hours but a in a week most people may log on and choose to match or not match. If a guy is sitting at 54 or 55 players while waiting to see if a player is actually theirs, I don't see an issue with that, they can cut if the other team chooses to not match. I believe in the sim, the p/s player will not be counted towards that weeks sim grades either.

You're right. It's a non-issue right now because we don't strictly enforce the roster limits or salary cap. But if we ever did, then it's something that needs to either be clarified or addressed.

It may add something to the list of things to be done but I don't believe it's that much more work (time intensive) for Goodell to sync the 1 week and 48 hour windows either way if that's what's best.

Yeah, as long as someone isn't completely abusing the current system, I also don't see much need for a change. The benefits for strict enforcement don't really justify all the extra work.

Another example is this... I just made a trade in AFFL for Dustin Hopkins. Nick Folk was just put on IR in real life. So, I am sitting at 54 until I can put Folk on IR. I have no interest in cutting him, just placing him on reserve.

Where did you see Nick Folk to the IR? I don't think he is even ailing from anything...
