As always, free agency closes at the end of the regular season to avoid situations like signings other teams' practice squad guys while teams are out of the playoffs and perhaps not checking on their team since finished for the year so they don't lose players unfairly. So if there is anybody you want to get under contract this season, you have until we sim our version of week 18 this week.
If any miscommunication or misunderstanding about this, that also included LTCs. However, as some weren't aware of that and I didn't make that as clear as could have, we'll allow any last minute LTCs for teams with LTCs left and salary cap space up until we begin the post-season sims later this week on Friday.

As noted earlier, we've uploaded grades from the end of the regular season.

- Madden grades have been updated.

- As we instituted in recent seasons, players with higher PFF grades get bonus points (max 1-3, lowest grades eligible for most bonus). 214 players were given bonus points for higher PFF grade. See data output below. Let me know if you believe a player wasn't updated as they should have been. We use the OFF and DEF grades for those for the PFF grades. Hybrid grades including a Madden baseline and any PFF extra points have been updated.

Here are the PFF bonuses added to Madden grades:

Re: 2023 SEASON UPDATE

Post by Goodell »

Today we simmed all our league championship games. Thank everyone for a great season! We'll start off-season rules discussions, polls, etc. this week as we start to move forward to next season now. I may take a day off or two first, as it's a three-day weekend for me. :)

As you start thinking about off-season moves, sometimes it's helpful to look at our new champions. This was a different year in some ways. Although he won the NFL's trophy, statistically it was a down season for Patrick Mahomes. With some other injuries across the league, there weren't a lot of elite passing statistics that can sometimes propel sim teams down the digital field.

AFFL Champ: Carolina (13-4)
QB: Baker Mayfield, so they won arguably without an elite QB.
RBs: Josh Jacobs, Travis Etienne, Kenneth Walker... so pretty stacked there.
WRs: 5.6
OL: 5.9
F7: 6.1
SEC: 6.1
They played CLE in the AFFL Bowl who generally had higher grades but not by much. They were also better throughout the season at 16-1. But in the end, their multi-game averages rolled several turnovers and that cost them in a close game.

BRFL Champ: New Orleans (15-2)
QB: Dak Prescott, so mostly good statistical numbers throughout the season.
RBs: Alvin Kamara, Rachaad White, Elijah Mitchell... solid.
WRs: 7.1 (Aiyuk, Cooper, Andrews, Higgins)
OL: 6.5
F7: 5.9
SEC: 6.2
They had a close championship game with Houston who had similar grades (less OL, more SEC) but more turnovers and not as good of a QB update in the final game.

CFFL Champ: Houston (17-0)
QB: Brock Purdy, Jalen Hurts
RBs: Elliott Ezekiel, Raheem Mostert, Jerick McKinnon, Scott Boston... deep but not an elite group.
WRs: 6.8
OL: 6.7
F7: 6
SEC: 6
With two strong QBs to pick from (or in case either got hurt) and big grades on offense, they didn't lose all year and won their CFFL Bowl 44-17.

DFFL Champ: Jets (15-2)
QB: Nick Mullens, Tyrod Taylor, Kenny Pickett, Bailey Zappe, etc. with Anthony Richardson and Deshaun Watson in the training room.
RBs: Travis Etienne and Jahmyr Gibbs... so some big play ability.
WRs: 6.8 (Lamb, Aiyuk)
OL: 6.6
F7: 6.1
SEC: 6.3
They had a big win in the DFFL Bowl over a 16-1 Rams team that similarly didn't have elite QB (D. Carr) but good grades.

EFFL Champ: Dallas (17-0)
QB: Jalen Hurts
RBs: Barkley, Warren, Mattison
WRs: 5.9
OL: 6.2
F7: 6.1
SEC: 6
They had a narrow victory in EFFL Bowl over defending champ and frequent league powerhouse OAK (15-2) who had D. Carr under center, better WR, F7 and really strong SEC grades.

FFFL Champ: Buffalo (17-0)
QB: Dak Prescott
RBs: Aaron Jones, Zach Moss
WRs: 6.2
OL: 6.8
F7: 6.2
SEC: 7.2
They beat SF (14-3) in the FFFL Bowl who had backup Jake Browning leading the team after Joe Burrow injury, so they were a bit out gunned at QB as well as lower (but still pretty good) grades across all the categories.

The average championship team had 6.4 receivers, 6.5 offensive line, 6.1 front seven and 6.3 secondary. And these grades are after a long season with lots of injuries, so they started the year higher in many cases and having to endure injuries through good depth.

Most years if you can get yourself an elite QB that's also great, but as the champions showed this season teams can win without a HOF or GOAT under center if they've got solid numbers otherwise and a very strong team overall.

Great job to all the champions, all the teams that made the playoffs, and all the teams rebuilding so they get there in the future.
