Yeah, July is usually a time for that. There have been many draft picks signing, but not the avalanche right before training camp just yet I don't think. We'll probably have a lot more details then especially for higher round picks. Usually after most of the first rounders are signed and we have a good idea of the finances for each round we'll have enough info to start ours.

I usually put a spreadsheet together of signings with published contract details in each round to see if there are any patterns we can use ourselves and see how this year compares to last year. Haven't gathered that yet, but if others want to assist with that they can post the known contracts they find here in this thread.

I usually try to gather details on the high picks per round, a couple in the middle, and some at the end of the round. Typically for rounds 2-7 there are rookie minimums that are the basis of most of the deals with a variable signing bonus or guaranteed amount that goes up each round.

Maybe there are others but RotoWorld is a pretty good place for contract details and all the players in one place formatted similarly.

A recent draft signing is Larry Hart from the 5th round.
7/13/2010: Signed a four-year, $1.983 million contract. The deal included a $192,800 signing bonus. 2010-2013: Under Contract, 2014: Free Agent

5th rounder Riley Cooper also:
7/13/2010: Signed a four-year, $1.962 million contract. The deal included a $171,500 signing bonus. 2010-2013: Under Contract, 2014: Free Agent

Basically we want to get a good idea of the average signing at the top and bottom of the rounds. How many years and signing bonus range. Then we can start to put together our structure for what we'll pay our draft contracts for those slots. I usually have something at the top of the round and the bottom and then average the distance for the descending selections in that round.

Hopefully some of the picks have something other than "under contract", and we can find examples of the rookie salary such as last year I believe it was:

Year 1: 395,000
Year 2: 480,000
Year 3: 565,000

So if we want to start gathering some of the known contract details of players who have signed already to get a general idea of the finances this year per round, people can post those. I'll do a big research project on that but probably not until most of the first rounders are signed to do it all in one shot right around training camp openings, but there are some lower round deals we could look at now.

If details aren't as consistent or readily published this year, we may just go with a slight adjustment from last year's scales.

According to this article the standard rookie base salaries without the signing bonus are
Year One: 320,000
Year Two: 405,000
Year Three: 490,000
Year Four: 575,000

http://www.boltsfromtheblue.com/2010/7/ ... -to-4-year

The contract is for 5th rounder Cam Thomas who signed a 4-year deal worth 1.981 million including a 191,000 signing bonus according to rotoworld. If you add those yearly values with the signing bonus it checks out. Don't know how reliable that site is.

I checked a few of my guys on rotoworld who have signed contracts. I do have the second to last pick from both the third and fourth rounds (Rennie Curran and O'Brien Schofield), but I don't believe either has signed a contract yet.

Corey Wooten: 11th (of 33 picks) pick in round 4:
4 year: SB $507,175, 2010: $320,000, 2011: $405,000, 2012: $490,000, 2013: $575,000

I also have several seventh round picks who have signed deals they all have the same 4 year structure as above but with different signing bonuses.
Pick 18 (Thompson) got a $60,000 SB.
Pick 24 (Capers) got a $50,000 SB.
Pick 34 (Howard) got a $45,000 SB (not reported by rotoworld).
Pick 37 (Coleman) got a $43,400 SB.
Pick 45 (Spitler) got a $40,000 SB.

I believe I read that the last of the first rounders was signed recently? We'll work on signing our draft picks this week one round at a time once I get a structure posted and people can look at it and let me know if they see any issues. thanks

See below for what the draft rookie signings looked like last year. I hope to get to these soon starting with the 7th round all signed as soon as tomorrow (kind of depends upon a dauther's doctor appointment), then the 6th, 5th, etc. so if you don't want to pay any SB to a drafted player better cut them before they are signed to a deal. Our 2010 rookie contracts won't be identical to these (as I think first year up to 320K) somoene posted for most, but should give you some idea. These were roughly what the estimated costs for signing your draft picks are quoted on your roster with perhaps a slight adjustment up.

Another note if you plan on cutting a rookie before his signing... there is no practice squad until we get down to the 53-man roster limits right before the season. The best way to ensure you get your guys on your p-squad if they don't make active roster is to hold onto them until p-squad is available and then you'd cut and sign to your p-squad immediately at that time later.

I also believe rookies cut without a contract may go into the waiver process as it's setup now for youngsters. After the contracts are signed I'll see if anybody has a zero salary based upon those circumstances and in that case give them the rookie contract they should have gotten if signed for the claiming team to now pay as they claim the existing contract also.

When you do the signings, don't forget to add the supplemental guys to the rosters as well.

Thanks.
