10: Draft Signings

Post by Goodell »

I've started signing draft picks starting with the 7th rounders. We'll go a round or two a day up to the first round. If your 7th round picks would have put you over the cap they weren't signed, you won't have further signings until you have space to accomodate. Any draft pick not signed cannot play, and if unsigned all year would go back into the draft with no compensation for the player next year.

7TH ROUNDERS FOR 2010:
4-year deals except for compensatory pick players with 3-year contract.
2010 = $320,000
2011 = $405,000
2012 = $490,000
2013 = $575,000 * (if applicable)
Signing Bonus : $30,000s low 7th comps ($45s low 7th) - $69,000s high 7th

Real 7th Round Examples:

Our 6th rounders are signed for teams with cap space to do so. More in the DFFL not having cap space for that. When we're all done (about a round a day) we'll go back and catch up to try to sign remaining draftees if new room created to do so. We started a little lower at the bottom than last year based upon the real numbers but went a little higher on the high end so more variation. Most of our leagues had quite a few 6th round compensatory picks and the NFL did also this year which is maybe why the bottom was lower than last year's.

6TH ROUNDERS FOR 2010:
2010 = $320,000
2011 = $405,000
2012 = $490,000
2013 = $575,000
Signing Bonus : $80,000s low 6th - $128,000s high 6th

Real 6th round contracts to base that upon:

1 (170) Rams Onobun, Fendi
7/20/2010: Signed a four-year, $1.919 million contract. The deal included a $129,000 signing bonus. 2010-2013: Under Contract, 2014: Free Agent

2 (171) Falcons (From Lions) Schillinger, Shann
6/10/2010: Signed a four-year, $1.91 million contract. The deal included a $125,000 signing bonus. 2010: $320,000, 2011: $405,000, 2012: $490,000, 2013: $575,000, 2014: Restricted Free Agent

8 (177) Browns Mitchell, Carlton
7/7/2010: Signed a four-year, $1.903 million contract. The deal included a $113,450 signing bonus. 2010-2013: Under Contract, 2014: Free Agent

22 (191) Bengals Briscoe, Dezmon

I think you should be able to see for yourself. If you are close to the cap, find a 4th rounder that was drafted near yours and look at what cap figure they have (2010 salary + 2010 pro-rated amount of the signing bonus). If that amount is more than the cap space you currently have, then you don't have room.

That, and if you go to your draft link above you can see who the franchise selected in what rounds and anybody in a low round who doesn't have a salary yet on your team and still listed as "drafted" didn't have cap space at the time to be signed.

Once I finish the 3rd and 2nd rounds (1st rounders will be signed manually by the teams through their roster pages when it's time) then I'll go back and see the lower round guys who weren't signed and then attempt to sign them again when cap space available (probably lots of cap space created as teams cut down to 53 man rosters). The ones I still can't sign I'll post as holdouts with a message in the forum.

Looks like to me that it is signing the pciks anyway. All the teams that are currently in the red have recently signed 4th rd picks. Am I missing something?

I know there were several in the DFFL especially who it reported back wouldn't sign this time around that weren't signed certainly.

When I pushed to sign, it might have also used information that wasn't entirely current, as the roster listed amount on Rosters page doesn't calculate all 32 teams in that instant to show everybody (as that would take forever to load every time), but instead uses a saved dollar figure for each team that gets check to see if needing updated when the individual team roster page is visited. The last couple of signing rounds I tried to go through most of the team rosters before I did but didn't have time this time. In the end, we want these guys signed (for realism in a league based upon realism) and teams making room for them.

It may not always be perfect the financial check, but at least should prevent situations of teams going WAY over in automatic signings to a situation they can't fix.
