No Kicker?

Post by Ben C. »

What happens in the software if a team does not have a kicker on the roster? Does the team go for 2 every time they score, and go for it every time they have a 4th down in field goal range?

No. Just like it assumes some realism across the board (like even if you only have 40 players signed it will pay for 53 using assumed minimum contract type guys, or for a backup QB having a default upgrade even if they don't play in reality and lowly graded), it would assume some type of kicker on the team (or even a punter or backup emergency kicker) with the lowest default update.

The way it was setup, we didn't really want wackiness and wanted things to be somewhat realistic and even for teams who may not be totally obsessed to be managing their team 24/7 and perhaps their kicker got injured in reality while they were on Christmas vacation or something, we don't have all hell break loose totally unrealistically, but assume some type of reasonable replacement there at a low update.

It hasn't been an issue, but if abused we'd probably move to lower the default update in such cases if teams going intentionally without kickers.
